Dawn Philips: Licensed Massage Therapist and CranioSacral Therapist

Dawn is a NY State Licensed Massage Therapist and CranioSacral Therapist in practice since 2005. A graduate of Cortiva Institute of Massage Therapy, Dawn has worked with a wide variety of clients at practices in New York and New Jersey including yoga studios, spas, chiropractic offices and wellness centers. After spending some time away from her hands-on practice and focusing on her own spiritual journey, Dawn became inspired by the distinct need for treatments that address emotions and experiences stored in our physical body. With renewed focus, she began to study somatic methods of healing stored trauma and training with the Upledger Institute in the techniques of CranioSacral Therapy and Somato-Emotional Release. In 2017, Dawn opened Haven at Brooklyn Therapy Collective to broaden her client base and help others to heal by bringing more awareness to these profound methods of bodywork. Dawn is also currently studying plant medicine and Western herbalism, bringing another healing approach to her practice.

In the treatment room, Dawn strives to support her clients in deepening their mind/body awareness by working beyond vulnerabilities into a space of increased presence and ease. Her sessions often blend a variety of manual therapy techniques that work to reduce pain and unlock patterns of holding including myofascial (connective-tissue) and trigger point release, neuromuscular, acupressure and orthopedic techniques as well as CranioSacral Therapy. Sometimes this means using deeper pressure to unwind tissue and sometimes this means a gentle touch with a listening hand – her goal is to let the body be the director of each session. Most importantly, she works towards empowering her clients to become their own health care advocates through education of self-care techniques, encouragement of positive-body dialogue and recommendations from her broad set of resources and knowledge of a wide array of holistic healthcare practices. She is most passionate about offering support for clients dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, addiction and recovery, PTSD, postural/overuse patterns, recovery from injury or trauma, as well as other manifestations of pain both physical and emotional, as well as those who seek to maintain their well-being through a healthy mind/body connection.

In addition to holistic healthcare, Dawn is also enthusiastic about the local foods movement and has developed multiple programs in efforts to help serve farms and our community. Since becoming a massage therapist, Dawn has also received her BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts, completed a fellowship at the Royal College of Art, London, studied meditation and bhakti yoga during an extended residency at the Vaisnava Ashram of Greater NY, and learned to play the drums. She continues to work at achieving balance within each of her roles as she believes it is her dharma to spread healing through all of these channels.
